Build to order has been a business philosophy
since trade began but used seldomly in the computer industry. Makers
of computer systems would build systems their way, ship them to
wholesale computer/retail stores and pass the responsibility of
servicing their systems onto the reseller. This approach has three
inherent flaws; the indirect approach meant customers had to deal with
a third party for service usually by people who knew little about the
product with which they were servicing, secondly, an inflated price
was necessary to accommodate the reseller and it's sales people and
finally, the computer maker lost contact with the customers purchasing
their product.
Dawson is continuously
refining its direct approach to manufacturing, selling and servicing
personal-computing systems. The company is committed to extending the
advantages inherent in what is already the industry's most efficient
business model. Current Dawson initiatives include moving even greater
volumes of product sales, service and support to the Internet, and
further expanding an already broad range of value-added services. The
Internet, the purest and most efficient form of the direct model,
provides greater convenience and efficiency to customers and, in turn,
to Dawson. Dawson services are focused on enhancing computing
solutions for, and simplifying the system buying decisions of, current
and potential customers.
By taking its direct
business model to even higher levels, through the Internet and
value-added services, Dawson intends to continue to grow its business
at a multiple of the high-growth rate anticipated for the
computer-systems industry as a whole. Dawson still has significant
opportunity for expansion in all parts of the world, especially in
markets outside of the Canada; in all customer segments; and in all
product categories, ranging from home PC's to enterprise products,
such as network servers and workstations.
By buying direct from
Dawson, our customers are assured of getting a quality system,
configured their way at the best possible price. Enjoy the peace of
mind knowing that our corporation stands behind every PC sold today
and tomorrow.

(JIT) Just-in-Time Inventory
Materials are received and placed into the flow racks in
manufacturing. JIT means Dawson receives only the materials it is
immediately ready to use and only those specified as desirable to that
particular customer.
Custom-Designed Computers
The Traveler is a sheet that contains all of the customer's unique
configuration information. This document travels with the system
throughout its assembly and shipping.
Kitting
When a Traveler is pulled, all internal parts and components required
to make the system are picked and placed into a tote.
Build to Order
A team of workers uses the kit to assemble and initially test the
entire system.
Testing and System Integration
Systems are then extensively tested using Dawson diagnostics. Standard
or custom hardware and software is factory installed and tested.
Boxing and Shipping
Completed systems are placed into boxes along with documentation and
manuals, then sealed and placed on trucks for shipment to the
customer.
Rapid Delivery
The build-to-order cycle takes less than five hours from start to
finish, and the cycle does not stop there. Rapid delivery,
round-the-clock technical support, customer service, and ongoing
feedback from customers help ensure the highest quality experience for
Dawson customers.
